CAN WE ASSIST YOU WITH THE PROVISION OF SITE WASTE MANAGEMENT PLANS?

New government regulations introduced in April 2008 now make a Site Waste Management Plan (SWMP) an essential requirement for any building or demolition project with an estimated cost greater than £300,000 excluding VAT.

A SWMP adds to project management efficiency and cost control as well as ensuring you comply with environmental regulations - failure to do so may result in fines of up to £50,000.

In a typical site waste management plan you will need to set out how you will manage building materials, how you propose to dispose of waste in a legally compliant way, as well as the opportunities you can identify for materials recycling.

For projects valued up to £500,000, whenever waste is removed from the site the principal contractor must record in the SWMP details including the
following:

- the identity of the person removing the waste;
- the types of waste removed; and
- the site that the waste is being taken to.

For a site waste management plan project worth more than £500,000, the level of detail required in the SWMP is greater (for example, as well as the identity of the person removing the waste, you will also need to record the waste carrier registration number of the carrier).

The above is only a brief overview. For full guidance on site waste management plans, visit the Office of Public Sector Information website:
